SERVE WITH THECHURCH.DIGITAL
WhatsApp Community Director
For a lot of the digital missionaries we know, church happens on WhatsApp. They’re building churches in group chats, praying with people at 2am their time, and a lot of them are doing it alone.
We want someone to befriend them there.
What you’d do
- Be a group admin. You’ll have admin rights in our WhatsApp community, so you can post, welcome people and remove what doesn’t belong.
- Welcome people. Every new member of our WhatsApp community gets a real hello from a real person, and one next step: the Fam, Scattered, Here I Am, or a One-to-One conversation.
- Keep the daily rhythm going. Post the day’s devotional and our announcements into the group. You get a one-tap prompt each morning with the post ready to go. You press send.
- Keep the groups safe. Hold the group rules, deal with spam and bad actors quickly, and when someone is struggling or in danger, don’t carry it alone. Tell Jeff the same day, and right away if it’s urgent.
- Support our outpost leaders. Our regional outposts already have leaders. Check in with each of them once a month, and make sure they know who to call.
What you wouldn’t do
You’re not tech support, and you’re not a moderator robot. Cairn, our Ai, already answers people’s questions one-to-one on WhatsApp, day and night. Cairn can’t post in a group, and Cairn can’t be anyone’s friend. That’s the job.
Who you are
- You’re 18 or older.
- You’re on WhatsApp every day already, on your phone.
- You’re a mature follower of Jesus, and you’re accountable to someone. That doesn’t have to be a local church, but it has to be real.
- You’re safe with people: you can set a boundary, stay calm in a conflict, and you know when something is bigger than you.
- You’re at home across cultures and time zones. Our community is on every continent.
Who you work with
You’ll start with Jeff. Once you’re settled in, Flatcap, our Director of Community, becomes your go-to person.
You’ll also be at the table:
- Senior Leadership Meeting: the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month, 9:00 AM US Eastern. Where TCD’s leaders plan together, and where you bring what you’re hearing on WhatsApp.
- Global Leadership Meeting: the 1st Wednesday of the month, 10:00 AM US Eastern. Our leaders from around the world, together once a month.
Both meetings are set on US Eastern time. Depending on where you live, that can mean an evening or a late night, so we’ll talk about it in your first conversation.
What success looks like after 90 days
- The daily posts go out every day, and Jeff isn’t the one posting them.
- The groups feel safe. Spam is gone fast, and every hard moment reaches a human the same day.
- Every newcomer is welcomed personally within 48 hours.
- Every outpost leader has had a monthly check-in and knows who to call.
How long
We’re asking for six months. Then we’ll sit down together and look at how it’s going, for you and for the community.
How to start
No application. Book 40 minutes with Jeff and talk it through:
