EP382 - Jesus Wanted Both. We Keep Picking One.
Mission or church? Missiology or ecclesiology? Most of us pick a side and defend it. Jesus wanted both. He sent his people out ("As the Father has sent me, I am sending you," John 20:21) and he built his church (Matthew 16:18). We keep picking one.
In this solo episode, Jeff Reed gives digital missionaries three charges:
1. Be humble. The Word comes before our ways, so listen before you defend. Tradition is not the enemy; putting tradition above the Word is.
2. Be comfortable with disruption. The Pharisees nullified the Word by their tradition, and the Sadducees knew neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. Mission broke out where the structure broke down: the scattered church of Acts 8, and Peter answering Jerusalem in Acts 11, "who was I to hinder the work of the Lord?"
3. Be bold. Humility is not timidity. Disruption in method, never in message. And don't leave the people you reach churchless.
Humble enough to listen. Bold enough to disrupt.
