Scattered·Monday
A pep talk, not a scolding
1 Peter 1:13
Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:13 · Berean Standard Bible (BSB), public domain
For twelve verses Peter tells scattered believers who they are: chosen, born again into a living hope, guarded by God's power. Then comes his first "therefore." "Prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ." The tone changes. For the first time, Peter starts asking something of them.
In the second Scattered session, Jeff said that turn felt like Dad yelling. Flatcap, who has coached a lot, heard it differently: "I think this is like a pep talk to the dispersion, saying, hey, be sober-minded." A coach names the opponent, then reminds the team what it already has. "So just because you're scattered doesn't mean you're missing something."
That changes how verse 13 lands for anyone serving online. Our feeds tell us all day what we lack: reach, budget, a building, a team. Peter doesn't deny the opposition. He just won't let it set the agenda. Prepare your mind, stay clear-headed, and put your hope where it belongs, on grace that is still coming toward you.
So start this week by hearing the instruction the way Peter meant it. You are not being scolded for being far from the center. You are being coached by someone who believes you can do this. Pick one place where your mind has drifted toward what you lack, and set your hope there, deliberately, on the grace of Christ.

Respond
Lord Jesus, prepare my mind for action. When I feel far from the center, remind me that I am not missing what matters. Keep me clear-headed, and help me set my hope fully on your grace. Amen.
