God of the valleys too
1 Peter 1:5-7
Listen
who through faith are shielded by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials
so that the proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Hear what Peter says right after promising an inheritance: these believers are "shielded by God's power," and "in this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials." Shielded doesn't mean spared. Real joy and real grief are true at once. The trials aren't a sign that God has left. They're the fire that shows "the proven character of your faith," which Peter calls more precious than gold.
In the session, Willpog put it in terms of mountains and valleys. "Most of life is the mundane," he said. "It's in the valleys and not in the mountaintops." He recalled the old boast against Israel, that their God was a god of the hills and not the valleys, and said God proved otherwise. He doesn't keep us out of the valley. He walks with us in it.
Online ministry has visible mountaintops: a raid, a full chat, a stream that clearly helped someone. It also has long valleys: empty rooms, quiet servers, weeks when nothing seems to move. It's tempting to measure God's presence by the numbers. Peter measures it differently. The valley is where faith is proven, and proven faith is worth more than any highlight reel.
To apply it: if you're in a valley season, you haven't been demoted. You're in the place where faith gets refined. Keep showing up, keep thanking God for small things, and keep watching for him in the ordinary weeks. The God of the mountaintops is also the God of this valley.

Respond
Lord, you are God of the mountaintops and the valleys. When my ministry feels small or slow, keep my faith steady. Refine it like gold, and let it bring you praise and glory when Jesus is revealed. Amen.
