Living stones

1 Peter 2:4-5

Next week Scattered reads 1 Peter 2:1–10, and Peter changes the picture. Christ is "the living stone, rejected by men but chosen and precious in God's sight," and "you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood." A house built from people rather than a place: no address, and still a house.

This week the room kept asking what holiness looks like when you are far from home. The answer it kept reaching was love: love one another deeply, from a pure heart, wherever you are. Next week's passage takes that further. The people loving each other at a distance are not scattered bricks. God is building them into one house.

For anyone serving online, that is a promise worth reading slowly. A Discord server, a Twitch chat or a WhatsApp group can feel like a pile of loose stones, everyone in their own corner. Peter says God is the builder, and Christ is the stone everything rests on. A church without an address is still being built.

This weekend, sit with this week's passage, 1 Peter 1:13–25, one more time. Then read ahead into 1 Peter 2:1–10 before Tuesday's session, live on Twitch at 5:00 PM ET. Come ready to talk about being a living stone, and about the people God is building into a house with you.

Respond

Lord Jesus, you are the living stone, chosen and precious. Build me into your spiritual house alongside the people you have given me, near and far. Make us a holy priesthood that offers you our lives. Amen.
