The spark they see
1 Peter 2:11-12
Today's reading: a short Bible passage, a reflection, a question to think about, and a prayer.
Beloved, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from the desires of the flesh, which war against your soul.
Conduct yourselves with such honor among the Gentiles that, though they slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us.

"Conduct yourselves with such honor among the Gentiles that, though they slander you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God." Peter writes to foreigners and exiles who do not fit in, and whose neighbors talk about them. He does not tell them to win the argument or to hide. He tells them they are being watched, and to let what people see point to God.
In the session, WordiGirl said that when people notice her online, she usually prays that no matter what, whoever sees her and hears her, "whoever knows, whoever is here, that they get that spark of Jesus, that they get that hunger, that they want more, even if I'm not able to fully express the full extent."
That is a freeing way to serve. You do not have to say everything perfectly or answer every critic. You only have to be honest and good where people can see you, and trust God with the rest. A kind reply, a prayer offered without fanfare, a steady presence in a hard thread: these are good deeds that people notice, and God can use them.
Today, before you post, comment, or reply anywhere, pause and pray WordiGirl's prayer in your own words: that whoever sees this would catch a spark of Jesus. Then look at what you were about to write. Does it point to him, or only to you? Change one thing if you need to. Let your ordinary words online carry his light.

Respond
Father, I am a foreigner here, and people are watching. Let my words and my deeds point to you, not to me. Where I cannot say it all, give the people who see me a spark of Jesus and a hunger for more of you. Amen.
