The word that outlasts the feed
1 Peter 1:24-25
Today's reading: a short Bible passage, a reflection, a question to think about, and a prayer.
For, “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.

Peter ends the chapter with Isaiah: "All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever." It sounds bleak at first. Everything fades. But the verse is built to turn on that last line. What we see withering is not the last word.
In the session, Flatcap pictured Peter's readers watching their world come apart around them, scattered and full of doubts. "If you compare what looks like around you to the reality of God's word, they don't compare," he said. "Like one is something fleeting and going away and the other is an enduring thing." In the upheaval, you trust God's word over what you see.
Online, we live inside the grass. Posts scroll away in hours, platforms rise and fall, and the work we pour ourselves into can disappear with an algorithm change. It is easy to decide that nothing digital lasts. Peter's answer is that the word we carry does. The medium withers. The message proclaimed through it stands forever.
Today, notice what you are watching wither: a project, a platform, a season of ministry, something you hoped would last. Name it honestly before God. Then hold onto the line Peter saved for the end. The word of the Lord stands forever, and this is the word that was proclaimed to you, and the one you get to pass on.

Respond
Lord, so much of what I build fades quickly. Thank you that your word stands forever. When I watch things wither, help me trust what you have said over what I see, and keep me faithful in passing it on. Amen.
